Wood's Orchards Farm Market
183 E. Mercury Blvd., Hampton, VA 23669

Our farm and farmer's market has been family owned and operated since 1943.  We are often referred to as the "Peach House" but we grow lots of other fruits and vegetables besides our famous peaches.  Our summer gardens are full of cukes, peppers, tomatoes, egg plant and squashes.  In the winter we focus on a variety of fresh greens.  For the  past 4 years we have offered pick your own pumpkins complete with hay rides into each of our  patches.  In the spring, we have strawberries  pick your own and pre-picked.

          Eat Local:

  • Eating local means more for the local economy. According to a study by the New Economics Foundation in London, a dollar spent locally generates twice as much income for the local economy.  When businesses are not owned locally, money leaves the community at every transaction.
  • Locally grown produce is fresher. Produce purchased at your local farmer's market has often been picked within 24 hours of your purchase.  Not days or weeks, like in a grocery store.  This freshness not only affects the taste of the food, but the nutritional value is greater in fresher food.
  • Locally grown fruits and vegetable have longer to ripen.   Because this produce will be handled less, locally grown fruit does not have to be "rugged" or stand up to the rigors of shipping.  This means the produce can be picked at it's peak.
  • Buying local food keeps us in touch with the seasons. By eating with the seasons, we are eating foods when they are at their peak taste, and are cheaper because of their abundance.
  • Supporting local providers supports responsible land development.  When you buy local, you give those farms and pastures and economic reason to stay open and undeveloped.
